About Chris Dobson
I come from a Chiropractic family. I was born in Iowa while my father was attending Palmer Chiropractic College. My Mother went to Sherman College of Chiropractic when I was 7. I graduated from Sherman College of Chiropractic in 1996 and apart from those times I’ve lived in New Zealand. My sister is also a chiropractor graduating from Sherman also.
I grew up with the Chiropractic philosophy. As a kid when I was unwell, I received chiropractic care and have been to a GP less than 10 times in my life. The concept of the body being intelligent pervades my understanding of things.
As a Chiropractor I’ve always been more fascinated by how techniques worked than being rushed off my feet. Often success is judged by how busy you are but for me it was what I learned that brought satisfaction.
I have a massive appetite for golf and sport generally. I wanted to be an Olympic kayaker but overtrained and burnt out. My love for golf exemplifies my love for things difficult!
My career as a chiropractor has been a road to discovery. I started with a common package of techniques including Diversified, Gonstead, Toggle and Thompson. I then delved into Network spinal analysis and began developing my own methods of tonal adjustments before becoming an assistant lecturer and Clinical supervisor at the New Zealand Chiropractic college. During which I took 8 Gonstead seminars and was accepted into the Diplomat programme. I was assistant lecturer in many technique classes including Diversified where I assisted in the course 12 times. I was head lecturer of Gonstead for several years before deciding to get back into practice again full time.
Over the past 9 years I’ve been in practice in Christchurch, New Zealand and wasn’t looking to develop anything specific in practice. Then along the way I set up some rules that helped me make sense of many contradictory findings and was the start of Cross Check Chiropractic.
It developed slowly over the first 2 years. I added a few more logical rules to how I assessed and before I knew it a different approach to the same problem had emerged. My assessment got better, and I tried some modified approaches to adjustments that integrated some of the methods I had used previously. The past 6 months has seen a quantum leap in the way I work.
I’ve been very pleased with how this has developed and feel a strong sense of calling to get this to more people, both chiropractors and patients.
